Zwischen See und Salz: Hallstatt
It is hidden between the Austrian Alps and is the perfect Christmas village. Quiet and lonely, Hallstatt is tricky to reach as the train takes approximately three hours from Salzburg and the ferry crosses the lake to bring you to this mysterious village surrounded with water and high mountains. The peaceful atmosphere and the pure uniqueness of Hallstatt all present in every corner of its architecture and structure, with secret paths which lead you on the highest edge of the mountains. And to go even higher, okay then there is a cable car going to the top of the tops.
That felt a bit risky for me at that moment, so the story continues not very high from the ground.
Little shops with artistic creations, christmas souvenirs, local salt from the mines and local specialities in the cozy restaurants are combined to make the three hour train ride very much worth it.
Also, you can discover a spooky corner in Hallstatt if you need some christmas shivers. You can see the place in the pictures below, apparently Heinrich Kirchschlager had a painting hobby which involved the Hallstatt citizens and their scalps.
The train ride is not boring at all, going through the Alps
Then there is the ferry from the train station to the village
And here we are!
